Physicians at The Christ Hospital Implant the Tristate’s First Pacemaker with MRI Compatibility
Physicians at The Lindner Clinical Trial Center at The Christ Hospital performed the first implant of a pacemaker designed to be compatible with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners in the Tristate, as part of a clinical trial called EnRhythm. The Medtronic EnRhythm MRI™ SureScan™ pacing system was implanted in a 78-year-old man by Madhukar Gupta, M.D., electrophysiologist at The Christ Hospital and Ohio Heart and Vascular Center. Up to 470 individuals will be enrolled over the next 30 months. All will receive the pacing system and two-thirds of participants will receive the MRI scans. For more information, please call 513-585-1777.

Physicians at The Christ Hospital Perform a New Treatment For Angina
The first FDA-approved robotic transmyocardial revascularization procedure in Ohio was performed by Geoffrey Answini, M.D., cardiovascular surgeon at The Christ Hospital, on a 59-year-old male with severe chronic angina. The patient’s angina has not returned.
Robotic TMR utilizes both the da Vinci robot and the Cardiogenesis TMR laser. Using the robot allows for a smaller incision, and the Cardiogenesis laser creates channels in the left ventricle of the heart to increase the blood flow and promote angiogenesis. The success rate using robotic-assisted TMR is 75 percent versus 30 percent using other treatment modalities.  For more information, please call 513-585-3691.
